We are Kona Kones and we are proud to be locally owned and operated serving skoops to our local community.

When we embarked on this journey we set out to transform a simple vision into a thriving reality - to create joyful memories, one skoop at a time.

Ice cream has featured time and time again in our family moments and so it seemed so perfectly natural for us to open and ice cream shop! And it turns out, most families have a special ‘ice cream memory’. For us, it started when Steve was a child when he spent time after school skooping ice cream at the family-owned local dairy! For Kim, ice cream was the special bond between her and her dad which these days has transferred to a bond between the kids and their grandfather.

We’ve carefully selected our ice cream supplier Appleby Farms because their values align with ours and because the ice cream is super yum!

And the name…introducing Kona, she’s the baby of our whanau and an ice cream monster. She’s named after Kona, Hawaii where Steve participated in the Ironman World Champs, another very special whanau memory. And who doesn’t love a bit of alliteration? When we were bouncing around names Kona Kones was the one that just felt right!
